Theme
The Theme of The Compound
is when you want to protect something do all you can to protect it.
Constructed response
In the story Eli had
to protect his family from Rex and from other effects such as bleeding,
starving or temperature. Rex is unappealing and makes sure Eli and his family never leave
the compound. Eli tries to break everyone
out and steal the combination to the door. As Eli is steeling the combination
Rex wakes up and takes it from him and tells him never to try to escape again.
Eli does not give up there, he remembered some numbers from the combo and had
to keep guessing till he got it. He guessed birthdays and special days and
holidays. Eli did not give up until he got the door opened. He wanted to
protect them so bad he would do anything to keep them safe.
